Have you tried Lavash?   Leave a comment

Sometimes I go to Uzbekistan, you can’t really call it “going on holiday” and if you know anything about the place you would know the truth of that statement, still I don’t think I want to end up in a Ministry of Truth jail the next time I go, so I won’t say any more about the place.

The great thing about going to places like Uzbekistan is eating your way through their food! I have mentioned before the bread, Lepropshka and marvelled about the Shashlik (lamb, liver or beef kebabs) so like mentioning the political torture of enemies of the state I shalln’t drift into too much detail about them in this little blog now.

What I want to tell you about is another really rather wonderful ‘bread,’ and I use that word loosely, which I had there. Oddly enough it comes from Armenia but is very popular throughout Central Asia.

Lavash is a soft, (very) thin unleavened flatbread made in a tandoor oven, very much like a Mexican Wrap but frankly, in this Cat’s opinion, and who would argue with him… stand up who said that!

Lavash

Sorry I got carried away there…. Where was I? Oh yes, frankly Lavash is far superior to any bread I have ever had wrapped around Mexican food.

The Armenians and the Uzbeks wrap meat, from the grill, in Lavash and woolf it down. However I really like Lavash when it’s folded into a neat parcels around ham and cheese, or if you want to be very indulgent, and why not? I say! Fold it into the same cheese and ham parcels and add, tomatoes, spring onions, peppers and anything else you fancy…heaven. Then fry them in a very little olive oil until they are golden brown, to be honest the process is more heat them in a little olive oil. The oil being there just to stop the parcel sticking to the pan.

Being a very lucky Cat I actually had Lavash Parcels with cheese and all the etceteras for breakfast this morning.

When chomping through my delicious breakfast I remembered a picture I took in Tashkent of a packet of Lavash a while ago and thought I would share it with you! Then probably forgot as I was too busy being glorious!

So where is the funny sign I hear you ask, cheated. Well I have a feeling that this pack might be for the German market….

Gross Fart

What do you think, it has to be for the Germans, they are the only ones I know of who like a bit of “gross fart” do you agree?
